Caving
Steve is an established provider of caving and caving coaching. He holds the Caving Instructor's Certificate (CIC), the highest possible award, and is able to lead and coach caving without restriction. Steve is a Trainer/Assessor for all the BCA Local Cave Leader awards; he brings his usual learner centred approach to all caver training situations.
The majority of Steve's caving work is in the delivery of BCA Local Cave Leader training and assessment courses at both Level One and Two. He is though, very keen to introduce anyone to the 'dark side' or to assist people to develop their caving skills and confidence at any level. The reputation of caving as a cold, wet, dirty and dangerous activity undertaken by strange people on the fringes of society is, he assures you, ill deserved. This common, negative perception is based on a lack of direct experience and on media reporting of extremely rare incidents. Steve has introduced a great many people to this activity and virtually all are stunned by how different it is to their expectations - there's certainly no need to go into tight spaces, spend ages crawling or get soaking wet. Britain's premier caving area is right on his doorstep and offers a huge range of safe, straightforward and amazing underground adventures; so suspend your disbelief and give it a try!
