Steve is one of the UK's busiest course providers, running a broad range of BCU coaching and leadership courses every year. He is renowned for his innovative and highly learner-centred approach and has been the keynote speaker at the BCU's Level 5 Coach conference.

The Coaching Processes course provides an excellent base on which to build your coaching no matter what your discipline or present standard.

Skill Acquisition and Coach Education are Steve's academic specialisms. You won't get better guidance anywhere! Whilst this is a BCU course, it is generic to all learning situations and attracts people from a wide range of disciplines and backgrounds.

Steve's ability to extend the content means clients are usually challenged and fully engaged by what they discover on this 2 day course.

This one day course is designed to provide safety awareness and rescue training for flat water situations. This test is a pre-requisite for BC Level 1 and 2 coaching awards.

This course is included at a discounted rate if you are taking it as day 1 of Steve's BC Level 1 Coach Course.

This is the 4 day training course for the new BC Level 2 Coach award. It is a generic award covering all disciplines. You need to hold the Level 1 award (or have received APL from BC) plus 3 star in a canoe and kayak discipline.

This course is either a one or two day orientation for direct entrants to the BC coaching scheme at Level 2. It covers the content, requirements and assessment process.

It is available to those with old Level 2 Coach awards and above or to those who gain APL from BC. In all cases candidates must have a completed registration and have a stamped CR form before they can attend.

This course assesses the practical and written elements of the BC Level 2 coach award. Please ensure you are fully conversant with the prerequisites before enrolling. This day is usually quite long as the paperwork elements take significant time to complete.

If you would like to have your assessment on-site you will need to call to discuss arrangements to host the course.

As with all Steve's assessment courses, he will be very pleased to talk you through the process in advance to ensure you are fully aware of the requirements and prepared beforehand.

This course prepares you to coach in moderate water conditions under exactly the same remit as the old and new BC Level 3 Coach Awards.

You need the new UKCC Level 2 Coach award and the discipline specific 4 Star Leader award OR apply for accredited prior learning from the BCU.

Experience thus far has indicated that a 2 day training course is much preferable; Steve's second day provides a mock assessment with 'real' adult clients and all the support you need.

This is the single day coaching assessment for this award. You can do this by yourself on a 1:1 basis or as part of a group of 2-4 candidates.

You will be required to assess and coach a range of adult clients in an appropriate, moderate water environment.

This course aims to provide Grade 2 white water paddlers with all the knowledge and skills required to prevent, avoid and deal with river incidents. It is a prerequisite for those wishing to undertake Inland canoe and kayak Leader assessments.

This is the assessment for the BC WW Kayak Leader award. The 2 day course will check your ability to paddle, lead and manage a group in moderate water conditions. Please ensure you comply with all the BC prerequisites before presenting for this course.

This 2 day course covers personal paddling, group management and river leadership on grade 3 and 4 inland water. Whilst BC 4 star leader (now WW Kayak Leader) award is the only official prerequisite, in reality you need to be confidently paddling grade 3 water to gain maximum benefit from this course. Holding the BC Advanced White Water Safety and Rescue certificate is required before assessment.

British Canoeing Guide ModulesEnquiries and Booking

The BC Guide award is designed for individuals working on and running extended paddlesports trips home and abroad. It is open to all BC members though it is necessary to have held and used a BC leadership award for at least two years before being endorsed as a Guide.

Five 1 day modules are available, aspirant Guides must take a minimum of three. They then follow a period of mentored practice before being signed off as a Guide when they meet the required standard. There is no formal assessment.

Dates: Individual module dates likely early 2018. Modules are run as part of sea kayak and canoe trips, see those pages for dates.

Cost: 100 per day module or included in price if taken as part of a sea kayak or canoe trip.
