New website now online!

Welcome to the Steve Banks Outdoors website.

Please have a look around the site to find out what's on offer. I'd be delighted to hear any feedback on the site itself and the courses offered - the only way I can make it better for clients and users is to respond to their comments and suggestions.

News and comment will appear below in chronological order with the most recent listed first.

Feb 2012 New telephone line has now been installed. The number is 017687 79412.

Jan 2012 I've just had a full blown (no pun intended) weather station put up on the roof of our house in Threlkeld. It's providing a wide range of excellent data and I'm going to set it up so that it will be accessible online for anyone going outdoors (or wanting to stay indoors) in this area. I'll put a message up when it's done

Dec 2011 We have moved! Steve is now based in Threlkeld in the North Lakes though this will have negligible impact on his courses and venues. We have no landline available as yet but BT have promised to install one on January 6th so all should be normalised by then.

Nov 2011 The lists of Free Paddling Provision are available under all the individual paddlesport disciplines. Have a look through and choose your favoured craft and environment and contact Steve for a place. If you'd like to take part but are unsure please call for a chat. These places tend to be very popular so don't leave it to the last minute whatever your paddling preference

Nov 2011 New course listings and dates are now uploaded for the first half of 2012 covering the majority of the paddling courses Steve is able to run. All courses (paddling or otherwise) without a specific date are likely to be available on a bespoke basis, so if you don't see what you need or want don't hesitate to get in touch to enquire.

Oct 2011 Check out Steve's latest article in the BCU's CoDe magazine. 'Out of Style' is a critical review of the claimed benefits of working to individuals' learning styles in which Steve highlights the current scientific evidence before encouraging a new approach to dealing with 'styles'.

Sep 2011 There are several opportunities to have free paddlesport coaching and trips as part of BCU assessments. Check the Free Coaching pdf in the canoeing sections for dates and standards.,

Sep 2011 A full range of courses is up and running for the Autumn and the first one (sea kayak) was completed this past weekend in some entertaining conditions.

Aug 2011 The summer months have been spent in sunny San Diego, California running experiments in my latest research project. That all went very well and had the added bonus of avoiding the British Summer.
